Point of view: Society built on respect

As an Ahmadi Muslim, I believe that Sikhs have the right to wear a turban while playing soccer. Denying them that right goes against Canadian values.

Religious symbols allow us to express ourselves and our faith. Fortunately, in Canada, people are allowed to wear religious symbols without discrimination. Christians can wear a cross, Muslim women can wear a hijab and Sikhs can wear a turban.
The Quebec Soccer Federation’s initial decision to ban players who wear turbans, which it has subsequently reversed, was disappointing.
If an official, global soccer organization such as FIFA can accommodate specially designed sports hijabs, why couldn’t the Quebec Soccer Federation allow turbans?
